The theatre production of “Is There Life After High School” by Jeffrey Kindley and Craig Carnelia is now looking for actors. Is There Life After High School? uses songs and monologues to recall the joys, terrors, envies, hates, and loves that most teenagers experience throughout their high school years, and how these memories continue to influence our adult lives. It’s like a musical yearbook that floats between memories to the present and back again. Although there are no specific age ranges given, they are looking for actors who are between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. All roles are open. The entire play will be performed by a small group of principal actor/singers (at least eight, possibly ten.) All roles as well as musical material will be equally distributed between males and females.
Auditions for the production will be held on Monday, June 13 at 7:00 pm and Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 pm at Mapleton Hall, 1305 Mapleton Avenue, Suffield, Connecticut. Callbacks are set to be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:00 pm. The contemporary monologues, small scenes and songs that comprise the work make it play more like a revue than a narrative musical. It is an ensemble piece, with every actor taking multiple parts both as principals and ensemble.
Rehearsals will be held 3-4 evenings per week, although not everyone will be called for each rehearsal until the week before tech week. Rehearsals begin the final week of August. The production opens October 6, and runs on weekends through October 22nd. Auditions will require a contemporary musical theatre song in the proper key that reveals character and is no longer than 32 bars (or 90 seconds). An accompanist will be provided. You will be asked to read at least one monologue from the production. These will be provided at auditions. Anyone who auditions should bring a headshot/resume if you have one. (A candid photo of you will be taken at the audition as well.) Because there many “high school types” (the brain, the nerd, the popular girl etc.) please be prepared to demonstrate a broad range of character interpretations quickly. Because Is There Life After High School? is primarily a musical revue designed for actor/singers it does not utilize traditional stage choreography. However, it is preferable that those in the cast be comfortable with some stylized movement. This is a non-paid job. If you would like to submit to attend the auditions, email thesuffieldplayers@gmail.com.
